THE EXTREMISM OF THE CENTER IN ISRAEL
Michael Marder
July 31, 2015
This Thursday was a day of terror in Israel. Almost immediately after an ultra-Orthodox fanatic Yishai Schlisser stabbed six people at the Jerusalem Gay Pride Parade, Jewish extremists perpetrated an arson attack in the village of Douma, near Nablus, killing a one-and-a-half year-old Palestinian toddler.
____Both crimes were explicitly condemned by the Israeli Prime-Minister, Benyamin Netanyahu, who even expressed his “shock and horror” at the events. Yet, both would not have been possible without the climate of hatred incited by Netanyahu’s own extreme right-wing government.
____Indeed, incitement is a staple feature of Netanyahu’s political CV

“KAHANE WAS RIGHT” – BUT NOT IN THE WAY ISRAELI RACISTS CLAIM
Asa Winstanley
Friday, 31 July 2015
In 1968 in New York City, an American rabbi named Meir Kahane founded an organization called the Jewish Defence League. Despite the claim in the name to be defending the Jewish community from anti-Jewish attacks, the JDL was from the start far more concerned with going on the attack against its enemies. And the attacks were of an extremely violent nature — to the extent that the FBI in 2001 listed the JDL as a terrorist organisation.
[. . . .]
Many of today’s violent settler fanatics are often followers of Kahane. The ultra-Zionist terrorists who today burned a Palestinian baby to death with a fire bomb near Nablus are likely to be modern day followers of Kahane. One of their main slogans is “Kahane was right”. . . Kahane’s call to deport every single Palestinian from historic Palestine, or as he termed it “the Land of Israel.”
[. . . .]
But today we can say that Kahane was right in only one sense. He . . . never seemed to waiver in his belief that one day he would be vindicated and his ideas would become mainstream in Israeli society and in the Israeli government. In that sense, he was right.

“THE THUNDERBIRD,” BY SAMIH AL-QASIM
It is bound to come,
To come with the sun;
Its face deformed by the dust of books.
It is bound to come,
After the wind has committed suicide in my voice,
Something whose wonders have no bounds;
Something called in the songs:
The thunderbird.
It is bound to come;
For we have reached it,
We have reached the summit of death.
