Year after year, we are still reading the same unfortunate news reports showing the evil form of Apartheid that exists in Israel today. I lived in Shuafat in East Jerusalem. I saw that evil with my own eyes. I tried to understand what was going on.
___I walked along the Wall, from the south to the north. 520 km long, it snakes through Palestinian villages, destroyed olive groves and pasture lands. It moves across the rolling landscape, cutting off roads and paths and precluding the continuation of the social and economic life . . . .     More . . .

Even if we can’t agree on or accept each other’s historical narratives, it is still possible to acknowledge that there are both Israelis and Palestinians living here today.
___MK Anat Berko (Likud) kicked off a storm in the Knesset last week when she pointed out that Arabic doesn’t have a ‘P’ sound, meaning that Palestinians themselves can’t pronounce Palestine (Arabic softens Ps into Fs, which is why the Arabic word for Palestine is Falastin) . . . . given that she was speaking on the same day as Prime Minister Netanyahu once again said that the time wasn’t right for a two-state solution, it’s no surprise that there was disquiet following her remarks.    More . . .

“SAFAD,”  BY  SALEM  JUBRAN
I am a stranger Safad
And you too,
The Houses greet me
But their dwellers
Order me to go away
Why are you roaming through the streets, Arab,
Why?
If you say hello
Nobody would answer you
Your relatives had been here
Then went away
And nobody stayed
A funeral of a morning
Sits on my lips
And in my eyes
There sits a lion’s humiliation
Farwell
Farwell Safad!

Ṣafad is a city in the Northern District of Palestine. At an elevation of 900 metres (2,953 ft), Safad is the highest city in the Galilee. Due to its high elevation, Safed experiences warm summers and cold, often snowy, winters. Because of its mild climate and scenic views, Safed is a popular holiday resort frequented by Israelis and foreign visitors. (Information from Wikipedia. In the original there is no mention that it was for centuries a Palestinian Arab city, depopulated in 1948.) HISTORY OF PALESTINE BLOG.
