❶ MA’AN NEWS AGENCY
PALESTINIAN  SHOT,  KILLED  IN  EAST  JERUSALEM  AFTER  ALLEGED  STABBING

JERUSALEM (Ma’an) — Israeli forces on Monday shot and killed a Palestinian man in East Jerusalem after an alleged stabbing attempt on border police officers, Israeli police said. [. . . . .]
____Israeli news site the Times of Israel reported that border police asked a Palestinian man to take his hands out of his pockets after becoming suspicious, at which point the suspect attempted to attack the officer, hitting his protective vest.
____The attacker was then shot multiple times.
____Palestinian witnesses told Ma’an that there was no attempted stabbing at the time of the shooting, and the man was killed as he was walking in the area.
____The suspect was identified as Mustafa Adel al-Khatib, 18.
____The latest death brings the total number of Palestinians killed to 25 since the beginning of October.

WEST BANK, (WAFA) – At least 32 Palestinians were last night detained by the Israeli army and security forces across the West Bank districts and Jerusalem, according to local and security sources.
____The intense operation comes amid a seemingly unceasing popular unrest by Palestinian youth against the Israeli measures in the occupied territories, including attempts to temporally divide al-Aqsa Mosque compound as well as Israel’s continuing settlement construction and expansion.

I was sitting in the back seat of my family’s green van and staring out the window when I heard my parents discuss our moving to Palestine. Needless to say, my eyes widened at the thought of moving and leaving all my friends behind.
____“But why?” I had asked furiously, my eyes welling up.
____With his eyes still on the road, my father responded, “So you and your brothers can see our home and learn Arabic. You’ll meet lots of family members, and you’ll make friends in no time.” [. . . . .]
____Both my mother and father were raised in Palestine in the pre-Oslo period. The image that I had of Palestine and of who we are as Palestinians was a result of that reality and of the fact that I lived halfway across the world. [. . . . .]
However, there was more to know and learn about us, as my father told me.

The State Department said Friday that recent attacks by Palestinians against Israelis are “acts of terror” but failed to apply the same standard when violence is committed against Palestinians by Israelis.
____”We would consider these violent acts [by Palestinians] that we’re talking about specifically here as acts of terror,” spokesman John Kirby said in response to a question about violence in the occupied territories.
____But when asked whether he also considered to be terrorist acts the stabbing of a Palestinian by a 17-year-old Israeli in the city of Dimona, Kirby brushed it aside and said he was not aware of the incident.

WHO  NEEDS  JUSTICE  WHEN  SUSPECTS  CAN  BE  EXECUTED  IN  THE  STREET?

Yesterday I published John Brown’s latest article on my Facebook wall. The article includes a video that clearly shows Fadi Alloun, the young Palestinian man from Issawiya, being shot and killed by police officers despite not posing a threat when shot. There is no question here of not knowing “what happened before” — even if Alloun did stab someone, the police could have subdued him and protected the passersby without killing him. Alloun, put simply, was executed to the cheers of the onlookers who encouraged the officers to shoot. [. . . . .]
____Israel’s legal system is supposed to reflect its collective principles, as formulated by its elected officials. It holds a substantial statement. And when that statement reflects those who say it in a bad light, it is always easier to implement the policy itself without taking responsibility for its moral significance. That way, Sharon Gal (who proposed the “death to terrorists” law) gets what he wants — death sentence for “terrorists,” defined in the widest possible way — while the Israeli legal system remains clean of any law that may tarnish it in the eyes of many Israelis, not to mention the international community.

What do you say?
You grew tired of my embrace and my smell.
Aren’t you just as tired of the fear within me?
Then throw your gun in the river! What do you say?
The enemy on the riverbank aims his machine gun at an embrace?
Shoot the enemy!
Thus we avoid the enemy’s bullets and keep from falling into sin.
What do you say?
You’ll kill me so the enemy can go to our home
And descend again into the law of the jungle?
